First there was the command line

Then there was the application

Then came the Graphic User Interface

Then came the Browser

Where ever there is a Login and a Password to connect, there is a Table,
with fields, columns and data type and it a group of table is the starting
point of a DATABASE.

in 1985 I started with dBase II then Dbase III+ all tables were scattered
Password had to be maintained in encrypted tables

So I maintain BROWSERS connect to DATABASE.

SQL is just a language to retrieve data to build INFORMATION

Servers can be PC, it is just a Hardware hosting the DATA

Just try to create an existing user (either in Windows or LINUX) again,
the system will automatically reject it
because it is a UNIQUE field. managed by the System ? Kernel ? Application ?

Where are the stored password your Browser keeps each time it ask you
whether you want it to keep it or not.

In A TABLE and it can be viewed in >> Settings > preferences > Security >>
Saved LOGINS and A *BUTTON TO View Password.*

There you will see a Structured Table AND COLUMN : SITE, USERNAME,
LASTLOGIN, LAST CHANGED AND optionally not displayed PASSWORD but can be
viewed upon request.

Now where these are stored ? This is a SECRET

Because an application can be build to copy that table send it by e-mail
and read it.

that application is called a VIRUS

I was looking on FaceBook 'sDATA storage and MySQL !!!
For sure millions simultaneous Users connected !!!
I would guess nobody is running an database server with millions of
connections simultaneously open.

On huge Systems as Facebook there are some application servers between
users and database which do serialize database access to an lower number
of connections - it does not make sense to let DB server process
millions of queries simultaneously since the hardware has not that much
parallelity.

It is good practice to only have an open connection to the DB when you need to access or update data. So you have to design your application to, when a request from client is received:

- create and open a connection to the DB (this usually comes from the connection pool)

- select the data your need

- update the data

- close the connection and return it to the pool

It’s a bad idea to keep DB connection permanently open while your app is open. In this way your connection is open for a very short period of time and you can service many user requests with a relatively small number of simultaneous open connections to the DB

And you waste a lot of time and server power for endless connect/disconnect which are
quite heavy operations.

One thing is for sure YOU can't login FACEBOOK with two different IDs from
the SAME PC at the same TIME.

Or even (correct if I'm wrong) SAME ID on to different PCs

There should be a UNIQUE field such MAC ADDRESS + IP + ID managed by the
DATABASE in a TABLE !!!

So there is a TABLE

I would assume that to be true for using une WEB-Browser. It shpild be
no Problem to login with two IDs using e.g. chrome for one and foirefox
for the other and there is nothing preventing you to login with an third
ID using konqueror.

That would suprise me. They certainly do not manage such an table for
current logins.

Client does have an cookie to identify. This cookie is known at
application server which stores such information in RAM. Keyed by that
cookie there is more information about user session stored in RAM.

You should read some basic information about how to make WEB-Applications.

WEB application uses a BROWSER that's all
No, they don't. Web-applications are executed on web-server. There is
no browser on server.

I meant client access the (information/Data/Database) Server with a Browser
The only protocols supported by browsers are HTTP and FTP. No DBMS can they talk with.

How many concurrent users can connect to a FireBird database on a Windows 2003 Std Server
(Pentium III 666Mhz) 2GB RAM ?
1024.
Actually, in Fb 3, it is 2048. And the "hard limit" applies only to
Superserver mode. The other modes can take as many connections as the
machine can resource. With 2GB RAM, that is not a lot. That machine
would be seriously under-resourced for Classic and not suitable for SC
at all.

That's why I assumed Superserver and old hardcoded limit.

Isn't the connection the same ?
Behind the WEB PAGE, if there is a login and Password, there is a DATABASE
it's either a BROWSER or an APPLICATION isn't it ?

Kind Regards

Being pedantic - 2.5.3+ and 3.0+ http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-4439
The limit applies to Windows... SS & SC. But not Classic.
This limit could be increased if needed. Its not a hard limit
